Water Treatment

Closed Water System Treatment

Experiencing issues with water flow, damaged components or inefficient energy usage in your closed water system? You might need to treat your system.

Corrosion, scale build-up, bacterial growth sludge deposits can build up in your system if it's not treated regularly.

From low temperature hot water (LTHW) to chilled water systems, we help you stay compliant, efficient and in control.

Why you need closed water system treatment

When left unchecked, closed water systems can quietly become breeding grounds for problems. Without a structured water treatment programme, even the most robust closed system can suffer from internal corrosion, bacterial growth and falling efficiency.

Here’s are just a few things that can go wrong in untreated or poorly managed systems:

Image

Corrosion and scale formation:

Poor water chemistry can lead to deposit corrosion, localised corrosion and, eventually, damage to pipework and metal surfaces. Systems containing yellow metals or softer metals are especially vulnerable.
Image

Microbiological contamination:

Anaerobic bacteria and microbial slimes thrive in stagnant or aerated water, degrading system integrity and creating blockages.
Image

Reduced energy efficiency:

Heat exchangers can’t transfer heat properly when coated with scale or sludge, increasing energy costs and putting strain on your system. Our treatment enhances thermal efficiency.
Image

Unexpected downtime:

The longer issues go unnoticed, the more expensive they are to fix, and the more disruptive they become for your building’s operation.
Image

Safety risks:

Poor monitoring of water conditions can result in untreated water circulating through essential infrastructure, increasing the chance of legionella contamination and potential compliance breaches.

What you’ll get from our closed water system treatment

Two dedicated project contacts

We know that you'll have queries and support needs throughout our partnership. That's why we give you not one, but two dedicated contacts who are available to you and take care of everything.

Back-office co-ordinator: your co-ordinator will take care of booking your project and follow-ups, and will be available if you have any non-technical queries.

Technical account manager: your account manager will get to know your site, manage the project on the day with no disruption to you and support with more complex queries.

On-site chemistry analysis

Our engineers carry out on-site water chemistry tests to assess the condition of your system in real time. This gives you immediate insights into the inhibitor levels, pH balance and chemical consistency of your recirculating water, flagging any early signs of corrosion, scale or chemical imbalance.

Regulated microbiological and lab testing

We send water samples for regulated laboratory testing to detect bacterial levels, including anaerobic bacteria, oxidising bacteria and other contaminants. Every new site we take on also gets an independent first-visit test to establish a clear baseline. This confirms your system condition and ensures compliance with industry standards like BSRIA BG 29.

Closed system tracking and performance trending

With every visit, we log system conditions into your closed system tracker, creating a running history of your system’s performance. This allows us to compare results over time, highlight anomalies and anticipate potential issues before they become costly failures. This enables predictive maintenance and helps extend asset lifecycles.

Targeted chemical treatments and dosing

We use the right mix of closed system inhibitors, scale inhibitors and suitable biocides to protect against corrosion damage, microbiological fouling and scale formation. This keeps your closed circuit water clean, balanced and protected. If your system needs remedial work, we provide dosing quotes to address issues quickly and effectively.

Expert advice and ongoing support

From the right water treatment products to the advice on testing frequency, you’ll always have support from a dedicated water treatment professional. We also provide help with managing dosing pots, understanding lab results and reviewing water treatment requirements across your building.

Our Process

Essential services like closed water system treatment shouldn't disrupt your business activities - so we keep things clear, efficient and hassle-free.
1

Enquiry and site review

Your dedicated technical account manager receives your enquiry and gathers the specifics of your system, whether it’s a LTHW system or chilled water system. They’ll tailor a water treatment programme to your site and provide a quote based on your needs.
2

Booking and scheduling

Our back-office coordinator will arrange your visit date, confirm access and requirements and keep you updated on all the practical details. No chasing, no miscommunication - just streamlined support from start to finish.
3

Site visit and system inspection

Our experienced engineers arrive on-site, fully briefed on your site, system layout and previous history. We complete all required testing, sampling and regulated laboratory testing to validate any previous records and set a performance baseline.
4

Reporting and recommendations

You’ll receive full paperwork, which outlines everything we've done, the results and any required actions, the next working day, along with remedial dosing quotes if needed. As soon as we receive the results from our independent lab testing, we'll send them straight to you. We’ll also update your closed system tracker to maintain a reliable log of ongoing performance.
5

Ongoing maintenance and support

From establishing a frequent testing schedule to providing advice on preventative maintenance, our team acts as an extension of yours. Whether you need support with pump speed, closed water systems management or long-term asset reliability, we’re always here to help.

Why choose Aqua Compliance?

We’re not just another contractor, we’re a partner you can trust to treat your system as if it were our own. From reducing your maintenance costs to improving long-term performance, our approach to closed system water treatment delivers measurable results and lasting peace of mind.

A closed water system is a sealed loop of water that circulates through heating or cooling systems without being exposed to the atmosphere. Unlike open systems, they rely on consistent water chemistry to prevent corrosion, scale formation and bacterial growth. They're commonly used in chilled systems, closed heating and air handling units.
